The Give a Damn Foundation has provided emergency fund support to the organization LGBT+ Rights Ghana, which advocates for the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community in Ghana. The situation in the country has worsened in recent years, with increasing discrimination, violence, and repression against LGBTIQ+ individuals and their allies. In 2024, the threat escalated further due to a law that not only intensifies the criminalization of homosexuality but also penalizes support for the community. This has led to fear and uncertainty among activists and LGBTIQ+ individuals in Ghana.
LGBT+ Rights Ghana plays a crucial role in protecting and empowering the LGBTIQ+ community. They monitor and report human rights violations, support victims of discrimination, and build bridges with religious communities to combat religiously motivated discrimination. Due to their work, they are constantly threatened and harassed by authorities. As the Give a Damn Foundation, we believe it is essential to stand in solidarity with those who fight for equal rights under dangerous circumstances. That is why we have decided to provide financial support to LGBT+ Rights Ghana in these challenging times, enabling them to continue their important work.
